MOB Live Episode 10: Gina Smith on the Power of Boy Mom Community

Be honest, mom… How many times since you brought those blue or pink bundles home from the hospital have you just wanted to quit trying? How many times have you caught yourself thinking about what a failure you are? How your one big mess-up will probably land that little person straight in the counseling chair? Me too. It was during a phone call with a friend that I finally decided I might not be the only mom with these kinds of issues. * In ONE conversation I knew I’d met another human being who understood. * That ONE phone...

What Can Josh Duggar Teach Us About Keeping our Boys Pure?

If you’ve been watching the news at all, you know that Josh Duggar, son of TV reality stars Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, has admitted to a lot of really bad things—pornography, adultery, and sexual abuse to name just a few. I don’t want to try to analyze his life, or that of his parents. I’m not here today to critique choices they’ve made, or plant myself firmly in one camp or another about any of the various issues surrounding this heartbreaking case. I don’t know the Duggars. I don’t know Josh. And even though they put their lives...

How to Build Relationship with Your Teen Son

How does it feel to raise teen sons? You recently told us on our MOB Society Facebook page: Invisible Not needed Powerless Helpless Exhausted Exhilarated Frustration Bewilderment Fear Hard work, right? I sat through a parenting class before I was even a mom, and heard a seasoned grandmother say these words, “Go after their hearts. Whatever you do, however you discipline them, whatever you teach them, keep their hearts with you. Do everything in your power to keep their hearts trusting in you and your battle will be so much easier.” It’s about relationship. Those words have stuck with me for years, and as I’ve raised my boys I’ve kept it at the forefront of my mind. We must commit to build relationship with our boys so that when troubles come they’ll have a safe place to land, turning to us instead of the world (<<—-tweet that).   How to Build Relationship With Your Teen Son Because this is so important, we’re going to devote the entire month of September to the fine art of building relationship with teen boys. You’ll hear from veteran boy moms like Tricia Goyer, Laura Groves, Gina Smith, Melanie Young, Lisa Whittle, Julie Sanders, Monica Swanson, Jacque Watkins, Tracey Eyster, Becky Barnfather, and from Nathan Clarkson (who isn’t a boy mom, but whose story gives so many of us hope that our hard work...

Titus Two Saturday! (Help! My Son Doesn’t Want to Go to Church!)

Welcome to Titus Two Saturdays (TTS) at the MOB Society! Does it seem to you that there is a shortage of older women who are making themselves available to speak into the lives of  younger women? Because we know how important that is,  every Saturday we ask a couple of women from our Titus Two team to answer a question that has been featured in our Question From A Boymom series.  This weeks question: “I need prayer for my 13 year old boy. He has decided in the last few months that he doesn’t believe in God and he refuses to go to church. I am a single mom and I get no support from my son’s father. He needs to be in a church environment and have positive men in his life. I try and have a “grown up” conversation with him and I end up in tears or yelling at him. It really hurts because I became involved with the student ministry this year and I feel like the worlds worst mother. I feel like I shouldn’t be allowed to pour into other kids because my own kid won’t go to church.” Gina Smith First of all, you are not the world’s worst mother. Your son has a mind of his own. You are doing what you know to do and encouraging him to go to church...

Celebrate Your Children? (Titus Two Saturday)

Welcome to Titus Two Saturdays (TTS) at the MOB Society! We know so many of you are desperately in need of an older mama to come alongside you and help you figure out how to love your husband well, serve your children, and take care of the responsibilities that come along with being a woman.   Doesn’t there seem to be a shortage of godly women stepping up to this role?  Well, we’ve  decided to bring together a team of amazing women willing to share their lives with those of us in the throes of young motherhood. This week, one of our Titus Two Team, Gina Smith, is here to tell you about her book! Grace Gifts: Celebrating Your Children Every Day Are you being a help or a hindrance in your child’s personal faith journey?  I can’t image that any parent would purposely be a hindrance. We all want what is best for our children, and have in mind what we think is the best way to accomplish all we want for them.  Unfortunately, if we aren’t careful, we can actually be a hindrance and not even realize it. I don’t want that, I know you don’t either! So what’s a mom to do? Take the time to reflect on how God parents you and then turn around and do the same for your children!  That’s how!  And...
