Happy New Year!

For all of the support, encouragement and love that we’ve shared on these pages since June of this year, Erin and I would like to say “Thank you” from the bottom of our hearts.  We recognize that without you, the M.O.B. Society is nothing but empty pages.  Some of us are hurting, others are rejoicing, but together with God’s help we’re raising men who will one day change the world!

Happy New Year friends.  We love you and pray God’s richest blessings on you and yours in 2011.

Closing out and ushering in..prayer day

The days draw to a close…

Many of us have experienced the greatest joys of our lives this 2010. Others have endured our greatest losses and look forward to the new mercies of 2011. Whatever our lot, we stand together.

Today, as we prepare to close out another year and usher in the new, we invite you to leave a prayer request.  Maybe you are in need of the touch of the Divine…maybe your son needs healing or for the Savior to bow low to grab his heart.  Whatever it is, there is safety on these pages.  And love.

But we ask that you not stop with just your own request.  Take the time to read the one above you and leave a prayer in written form for that precious soul too.  Let the cycle of love and lifting go on and on…

Let’s pray…

Bottling Up Christmas

By now…

  • the wrapping paper is torn to shreds.
  • the boys are running on overdrive from all of the sweet treats they’ve consumed.
  • you’ve visited and visited until you’re ready for your own bed.
  • And if you’re really a go-getter, you’ve started dismantling the decorations.
  • everett, truman, wrapping paper, happiness

But I can’t help but wonder…

How can we make Christmas last all year long?

I’m not talking about candy canes, stockings, or decorations. And I’m definitely not talking about presents! But the giving spirit of Christmas….how can I bottle that up and carry it with me every day?

I notice the extra giving everyone does during December—shoeboxes, goats, and canned goods. All great things that we do every year. But that’s just it….every year.

Is going the extra mile to give not important the other 11 months?

I know it is.

Psalm 19:17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.

Here are some ways that my family gives all year long:

  • We sponsor a child through Compassion. We write letters monthly as a family.
  • We have a jar on our counter that we collect our spare change throughout the year. Then at Christmas time we put it to use. This year we sent extra money to our Compassion child and filled extra shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. There are plenty of ways to give–water, goats, shoeboxes. Oh my!
  • $3 to the Mercy House on the 3rd of every month (The Power of Three)
  • On the 5th Saturday (whenever it falls) Ray and I go downtown to cook and serve at the local homeless shelter. We have to get a babysitter (Granny), but it is a morning well spent serving the Lord with my husband.

So let’s brainstorm…

  • How can we “bottle up Christmas” and teach our boys about giving all year long?
  • What creative ways have you included your boys in caring for others?

Oh, how I pray that God would continue to open our eyes and break our hearts for the people that need Him. Every. Single. Day.

Starting with me.

Celebrate Good Times!

We are preparing for a birthday around here. And with every birthday comes a party, of course!

My boys may only be four and two, but they already look forward to this birthday party every year. And in the midst of all of the presents and decorations, this birthday party brings us all back to the heart of it all.

Jesus.

Yep, we throw a birthday party for Jesus every Christmas Eve – complete with cake and singing! Doesn’t He deserve that – and MORE?! I’ve read a lot lately about having each person in the family give a “gift” to Jesus and I think that will make it’s way into our birthday celebration next year. What a beautiful way to truly celebrate His birth!

This year, we’ll be celebrating with cousins as well and using this adorable Really Woolly Kids party pack from DaySpring!

Honestly, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen my boys so excited for someone else’s birthday party and I LOVE it! And their delight is one of the main reasons this is my favorite Christmas tradition for our family!

But I love hearing ideas about how other families make Jesus the focus of Christmas – and we want to hear about your favorite traditions here today!

Link-up your favorite Christmas tradition post or, if you don’t blog, tell us in the comments!
